The Story Behind the Song

The inspiration behind, “The Kiss” has literary and cinematic origins. This tune was inspired by the love-story of two characters from Lord of the Rings; Aragorn and the immortal Elf-maiden Arwen. Nicole was compelled to create a song about their love after Jess properly introduced her to the Lord of the Rings movie trilogy in a marathon fashion.

One scene in the film, “The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring,” especially spoke to Nicole in which the two reminisce on the day they first met when Arwen promised she would give up her immortal life in order to be with Aragorn. She also reminds Aragorn that she would rather spend one lifetime with him rather than face all the ages of the world alone. She then gives Aragorn a silver pendant solidifying this promise. Nicole wanted to encapsulate this scene into song, and thus was written, “The Kiss.”

The first verse begins with Arwen gifting her pendant as a symbol of her eternal love – “A silver pendant, a promise to you. Bittersweet devotion.” The chorus lyrics hint to Arwen giving up her immortality to be with the one she loves – “I’d give up a thousand lifetimes to spend just one life with you, love.”

“The Kiss” was written by Nicole Audrey and the harmonies and lyrics were edited and arranged by Jess Cichos.
